American culture considers a person’s 40th birthday another significant point in their history. It marks a person as being past their young adult years and moving into their later adult years. That place between being young and being old. Friends and family gather to celebrate that passing of another milestone age. While most people do not mind, some can become a little down about turning 40.
History teaches that women are more likely to be affected by reaching their 40th birthday than men. Children are growing up, and life is changing. Some women begin to feel the beginning of changes to their selves and look back in retrospect on their lives. Men are traditionally less concerned with reaching the ripe old age of 40 than their female counterparts. They are more likely to embrace the age as a trophy for living well.
Traditionally this milestone birthday is celebrated with a party, to honor the passing of four decades of life and history. A party is a perfect idea that will help the guest of honor remember how valuable they are in the lives of those around them. Consider a theme that features a passion, hobby or other significant part of the person’s life.
A simple social gathering is a terrific way to celebrate today as it has been through history. Decorate with a theme as discussed above. Let the birthday cake create the table centerpiece. Create a table that show exhibits, and pictures that reflect the things the guest of honor likes. For example put a rod and reel with tackle box and beside it an 11 x 14 poster filled with pictures of the birthday boy or girl fishing. Birthday gifts can be set among the display or on a separate table.
