A homemade 80’s style piñata will be the life of any party. Along with the piñata, great music, costumes, and decorations will make the party a night to remember. So, how do you create a homemade 80’s style piñata? The answer is simple just follow the instructions below and the piñata will be done in no time.
To begin making the handmade piñata assemble the following supplies. All of these supplies can be found at any local retail or retail store. The supplies include: large balloon or beach ball, old newspapers, glue, tape, crayons, markers, or poster paint, tissue or construction paper, scissors, yarn, and knife and finally the candy and toys.
Once you have all the supplies assembled you are ready to begin creating the homemade piñata. To begin blow up the balloon or beach ball which ever you choose. Once this is done you will take the newspaper and tear it into strips that are about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. Be sure that the strips are torn rather than cut because it will help the strips lie flat on each other on the balloon. Next, pour some of the white glue and pour it into a bowl and begin dipping the newspaper into the glue and applying it onto the balloon. Continue this process until the entire balloon is covered but, be sure that that a hole remains at the top so that the balloon can be removed and the candy are placed inside. Allow the first layer of newspaper to dry overnight.
Once the first layer of your handmade piñata is dry, repeat the layering process two more times until the paper Mache of the balloon appears thick. Allow the piñata to dry once again over night. On the next day wrap string or yarn around the balloon to give it enough to hold when swung around. Allow the balloon to dry once again then, remove the balloon.
Once all of the above steps are complete for your homemade piñata it is time to begin the decorating process. There are a variety of different design options to choose for this great 80’s piñata including fish, birds, and even the famous cartoon characters of the 80’s. With a great homemade piñata the party will soon be hopping.
