An anniversary can mark the time spent together as a couple, at a company, or a special joyous event that took place, so focus on the reason for the anniversary and converse about it. It could mark a first date for a couple. And there is lots to be said about that, as first dates can be very awkward and confusing.
If the anniversary marks a milestone that someone has been employed in a certain position at a company, this is cause for celebration, toasting, and cheerful conversation. Anyone who has spent many years at a job, especially at an office, has many funny stories to tell. They could speak of various characters at work that have come and gone. Some of them may even be known by the other guests at the party.
One might even have an anniversary for the day they quit smoking cigarettes, and that is cause for praise and how to conversations. Some guests might have their own ideas about how they quit the habit. Others may want the encouragement of the pep talk. There is a story for everything, and everyone has one. It takes a good conversationalist to bring out the stories in the other guests at the party. Being a good listener is just as important a component as being a good talker, when it comes to conversation.
