The Baby Einstein company has a relatively short but helpful history. Founded in 1996 by a stay at home mom, Julie Aigner-Clark, this product line and series of videos was created to help very young children who are just learning to form words, have an extra leg up in their learning process. The original series was shown as a video that included many toys, objects and shapes while showing the words on the screen, even in several different languages. The series was touted as one that would help babies to achieve vocabularies outside of normal expectations.
Some interesting facts about Baby Einstein include information such as how this small business quickly jumped from nothing to a 1 million dollar enterprise, to 10 million dollars in just a couple of short years. At one point experts estimated that the company was worth upwards of 400 million dollars.
It is also a fact that Julie Aigner-Clark sold twenty percent of the company to Artisan Entertainment in February of 2000 and went on to sell the other eighty percent to the Walt Disney Company in November of 2001. This name brand also pays high amounts of royalties to the former physicist known as Albert Einstein. Surveys have shown that there is a baby einstein product in one in every three homes in the US which has made it the number one selling brand of videos geared towards very young children. This product has been featured on the Oprah show to The Today Show.
