Known as perhaps the most raucous and controversial of social festivities, the Bachelor Party has grown more and more wild with the passing of years; could it be, though, that brides have put the brakes on bachelor fests? In these modern times women are putting their feet down!Back in the days of ancient Greece, Spartans were known for honoring grooms with officious dinners that fairly reeked of civility and decorum. One would not find strippers at these grand affairs. Yet as people let their hair down in the roaring ‘20s, bachelor parties ‘evolved’ into stag parties; wild parties that involved the mass consumption of alcohol, performances by belly and exotic dancers, and sometimes the showing of motion pictures that the groom wouldn’t want his bride—or, for that matter, his mother, his future mother-in-law, his sisters, or his pastor--to see. We will not tell if you will not (wink)! Although the term ‘stag party’ fell by the wayside in the politically correct ‘60s and ‘70s (though the term is still used in some European countries)bachelor party mania hit a fever pitch in the ‘80s, as the hit movie “Bachelor Party” captured the raunchy spirit of more modern bachelor fests. Suddenly every young man wanted to be Tom Hanks. Yet this Tom Hanks blockbuster also showed scenes of the bride to be’s answer to the bachelor party. Also featuring booze and strippers (of the male variety), the phenomena of the bachelorette party opened men’s eyes to the possibility that girls like to have fun too—and some of these gents didn’t like what they saw. Indeed, several ‘90s talk shows featured appearances from enraged fiancés, confronting their blushing brides to be about the heat level of their bachelorette parties; causing the women to respond with a hearty, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.” And, for that matter, very good indeed for their gender! As a result, some modern grooms are tuning down the velocity of bachelor parties, opting instead for quiet dinners, movie nights, or laser tag or paint ball games with friends. And some couples are even joining together for joint prenuptial parties, so the fun never gets out of hand. Although it’s changed over the years, the Bachelor Party remains one of the wildest festivities on the party scene. Plan a Bachelor Party today!
