The Bar Mitzvah party menu can host a balanced mix of traditional Jewish cooking and some great tasting kids treats. The Baklava is a tasty European dessert made with honey and nuts so it should fit right in at the table. You can also make chocolate baklava for the kids. The main course can be something very simple like meat and cheese wraps or pitas with a tasty cucumber sauce. Even the Bar Mitzvah boy would love them, but you can also have a pizza on hand as back up for those picky eaters. Put a twist on the traditional latkes by making Sweet Potato Latkes and serving them with a maple syrup or honey sauce. You can make them as a side dish or dessert. Last but not least add some filler items to your buffet with a tomato salad, macaroni salad and easy pick up items like dried fruits and pretzels.
Making Sweet Potato Latkes for the Bar Mitzvah Holiday isn’t that hard. You need about four to six sweet potatoes depending on the size of your party. Pierce them with a fork and microwave or boil them whole until well cooked. Let the potatoes cool. Peel off the outer skins. Mush up the remainder in a large bowl. If you like you can add a half a cup of milk for a creamier latke to the mix. If not leave it out. Do add a few pats of butter. For sweeter latkes add some brown sugar or honey. Just a little will do. Make up patties from the mixture and place them in the freezer to cool.
In the meantime you can heat up the griddle or frying pan for the Bar Mitzvah Latkes. Add some oil and fully coat the inside of the pan. You can tell its hot enough when a drop of water will sizzle and evaporate in the pan. Turn down the heat a little and place your patties in the pan. If you have enough oil and the patties are cool enough you should be able to get a nice crust without them falling apart. Flip the patties after a minute or so and brown the other sides. Serve up the warm Sweet Potato latkes with honey for sauce.
Have a great time at your Bar Mitzvah party and eat up plenty of food! By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create
a complete Bar Mitzvah theme party feeling. |
