Basketball COOKIES

For your next basketball crowd, give them a treat with homemade basketball theme cookies.

The ingredients for your homemade basketball cookies are simple. You’ll need ½ pound of blanched almonds, 4 drops of bitter almond oil, ¾ cups of sugar, orange food coloring mixed from red and yellow, and two egg whites, and semi-sweet chocolate for decorating. Combine the almonds with almond oil, sugar, food coloring, and lightly beaten egg whites. Knead the mixture with your hands until it is a firm dough. With moistened hands, form dough in to balls about 1 ½ to two inches in diameter. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking to the baking sheet. Place the balls about one inch apart on the baking sheet. Depending on how many basketball cookies you make, you may need another baking sheet, as well.

To bake your homemade basketball theme cookies, preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Place the baking sheet on the bottom rack and bake the balls for about 50 to 60 minutes. To cool them off, transfer them to a wire rack. For the decoration, heat the chocolate over boiling water until it is very thin, then take a skewer to drizzle lines onto the cooled cookies to make them look like basketballs. Do it carefully and just a bit at a time. The skewer should give you some control over the thin chocolate lines.

Serve up your homemade basketball cookies in a bowl that is lined with cord, so that it looks like a basketball net, and the gang will love it!
