Handmade Birthday Party Favors

Homemade party favors can be fun to create, and depending on the age of the birthday boy or girl, a theme can also be added.

If your child is a Spongebob Squarepants fan, some homemade party favors for this character might be a great idea. Since the cartoon character is a sponge, it would not be difficult to create this character using a yellow sponge. Just add doll eyes and cut out some foam pieces for the mouth, nose and clothing, and you’ve got Spongebob party favors that the kids can play with at the party and take home.

A theme for an older child might be Star Trek or Star Wars, and handmade party favors in the space theme should be pretty easy to create. Make the party in the evening, and cut out stars and planets out of neon foam that glows in the dark. Black lights will help your creations come alive all over the walls and ceiling. When the background or walls are darker, these stars will show up brighter. So you might try a black velvet wall covering for effect.

It’s always fun to create homemade party favors for a Scooby Do birthday party, as well. Since the atmosphere of Scooby Do is generally spooky, keep in mind ghosts, cemeteries, and fog to really make the kids enjoy the event. The party room can be set up as a cemetery, with large foam tombstones all around. Painted on them could be sayings like, “Here lies Joe Schwartz, he was full of ugly warts.” Sayings that make the kids laugh will add to the fun. Add fake skeletons hanging from the ceiling, and a cheesecloth ghost that seems to appear and hang around while the hostess bounces him from a fishing pole now and then. And if you can find a fog machine, it will really enhance the spooky atmosphere.
