Handmade Bowling Pinatas

Those who are celebrating a bowling theme birthday party may consider making their very own pin, bowling shoe, or bowling ball piñata. Piñata are great sources of fun for children because they are actually to smack something open without being punished for it.

To make the bowling ball piñata use a punch balloon. Tape flat the nub on the end opposite the knot. Prepare the paste and the paper strips. Prepare three layers of paper mache (2 of newspaper and 1 of white copy paper), of fifty 2- by 11-inch strips for each layer. Dip each strip into the paste and wipe off the excess with fingers, then smooth the strip around the balloon. Apply the first layer horizontally; second layer vertically and so on. After the second layer use tape and a wire hanger for the hook of the piñata. Tape the wire hanger down securely so it will not come loose when hung. For the third layer, apply white copy paper strips horizontally. Let this layer dry over night. Using a craft knife, cut a door (about 3 inches square). Cut 3 sides of the square, leaving 1 side uncut for a hinge. Reach in and remove the balloon. There are many piñata filler bags or use various bags of mixed candy and small toys. Fill the piñata to the maximum. Paint the 3 black or use construction paper and glue tem on. Paint the bowling ball a desired color. Let each child have a few swing of the piñata and let the fun commence.
