The history of the Bratz dolls though short, is still relatively facinating. This doll franchise that was introduced in 2001 as four original dolls. These dolls named Jade, Sasha, Yasmin and Cloe were portrayed as teenage girls that were highly distinguishable by their enlarged heads set atop skinny bodies. All of the Bratz dolls came with elaborate eyeshadows and glossy full lips.
As the history of Bratz began with the four original dolls it quickly expanded to include such gangs of bratz as Bratz Babyz or Bratz Kidz. It didn't take long for there to be offshoots in movie deals, TV series, music albums and video games. By the year 2005 global sales were estimated to be over two billion dollars and by the time 2006 rolled around Bratz were rumored to have cornered about forty percent of the market in the fashion doll world.
The history of Bratz dolls has not been free of controversy. Rumors that the dolls were created under harsher labor conditions in China did spark investigation which created a taint that Bratz dolls may not have ever fully lived down. Additionally, psychologist for the APA have very clearly expressed concern for the impact the dolls may have on young girls with their overt sexuality and alluring clothing. However, even with controversy surrounding them Bratz dolls have come nowhere near to falling from grace. These dolls are still ever popular today and a commonly purchased gift item for young girls everywhere.
