The history of the original Little People was inspired by the created Xavier Roberts with the help of four women as well as inspiration directly from a Tennessee artist known as Martha Nelson. Roger Schlaifer introduced the famous name change to the Cabbage Patch kids in 1983.

The story that includes the history behind the Cabbage Patch Kids was created by Parker Brothers. The story was told as a ten year old boy named Xavier accidentally discovers the Cabbage Patch by falling through a magic waterfall where he finds the Cabbage Patch babies being born. In order to save them and give them a great life he decides to adopt them out to all of the good families that he knows. However, there is also an evil villain whom he has to avoid and combat to save all of the Cabbage Patch Babies. He fights tirelessly to keep them from the clutches of the evil Lavender McDade who wants to enslave them inside of her gold mine. Xavier always succeeds in bringing them to families in his town of Mount Yonah.
