Homemade piñatas are a fun and inexpensive party decoration that can also be included in the activities of the party as well. However, the downside is that there is no quick way to create a piñata and normally they take up to 3 days to make. But, the payoff of the smiles on the kids’ faces will be well worth the time and effort that was spent. One of the best piñatas to create that every child will love is a child piñata.
Before beginning to create the homemade piñata you will first need to gather the following supplies; large balloon, large bowl, acrylic paint, ¼ cup vegetable oil, medium bowl, 1 C flour, 2 Cups Water, 2 TBSP salt, Newspaper that have been torn into 1 by 6/8 in strips, paper towels torn to the same dimensions, and finally string.
To begin the assembly process of the homemade piñata, start by making the glue for the handmade piñata. To achieve this take the bowl and combine the flour, water, and salt and mix until there are no lumps present. The mix should resemble thick glue. Then blow up the balloon and place it into the medium bowl. Next take the oil and rub it onto the balloon so that the paper will not stick to it.
Now that the prep work of your homemade piñata is finished the real work begins. Take a strip of the newspaper and dip it into the bowl of glue then apply it to the balloon. Continue this step so that they all overlap in all different directions and the whole balloon is completely covered. However, be sure that you are leaving a small hole at the top to pull out the balloon and add the goodies. Allow to dry overnight
While the base of your handmade piñata is drying begin to create the cat ears. This is achieved by folding a half sheet of newspaper in half lengthwise twice. Next, take one of the corners down to the opposite edge so that it resembles a triangle. Continue to fold till it reaches the desired thickness that you are seeking. Repeat the same steps for the other ear. Then take the ears and tape them onto opposite ends of the balloon and use masking tape to hold them in place.
Next, repeat the layering procedure of your homemade piñata with the newspaper including the ears in the process this time. Allow this second layer dry overnight then apply another layer. Allow to dry yet again. Now pop the balloon and remove it leaving the hole open for filling. Paint the piñata the color of the cat desired then simply fill attach a string and hang. There it is the perfect cat piñata for all kids to enjoy.
