Your homemade Chanukah piñata will stand out as being the highlight of the party. And a homemade piñata is relatively easy to make.
Just start your handmade Chanukah piñata by blowing up a round balloon. This balloon will be covered in paper mache, that you make yourself, and then eventually painted or decorated another way. For the paper mache, you will need newspapers, flour and water. Mix the flour and water together, until it forms a pasty consistency. You will need to shred your newspaper and then dip the strands into the paste until they are covered in it. Drape the pasty newspaper strands onto the balloon, until it covers the balloon completely, leaving a hole at the top. When this is all dry, pop the balloon inside and remove it.
At this point, you have the shell of your homemade Chanukah piñata, and it is ready to decorate. You can use blue, white and yellow paint and paint on images of dradels or other Chanukah images. Or you can glue colored crepe paper strands onto it, so that it sways in the air, as the child hits it. It is up to you to use your creativity in decorating your very special piñata.
When you’re done with the decorations, fill it with candies, small toys, and various enjoyable trinkets for a great surprise. Then hang it from the ceiling inside or from a tree outside. All the children will enjoy the thrill of hitting your homemade Chanukah piñata in anticipation of the goodies inside!
