Cheerleading is the kind of festive, high spirited activity that lends itself to a most ‘cheer’ful party—and to a marathon of a few great movies that manage to bring good cheer.

A playlist of high-kicking cheerleading movies will include titles that keep attentions snared and spirits high; just make sure that these titles are age appropriate, as not all movies that concern cheerleaders are entirely about cheerleading. Avoid exploitive features and stick to the tried and true favorites. These include:

Bring It On-- directed by Peyton Reed, starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford
Bring It On Again—directed by Damon Santo Stefano, starring Bree Turner, Anne Judson-Yager
Not Another Teen Movie—directed by Joel Gallen, starring Chyler Leigh, Chris Evans Jamie Pressly (for adult parties only, but contains a hilarious spoof of Bring It On)
Fired Up—directed by Will Gluck, starring Eric Christian Olsen, Nicholas D’Agosto, Sarah Roemer
Grease-- directed by Randal Kleiser, starring John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John (features cheerleader characters and scenes and contains references to cheerleading)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer—directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui, starring Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry (aside from being an ace vampire slayer, Buffy is also a cheerleader!)
Aside from showing a full array of cheerleading-themed features, party hosts can ‘cheer’ guests further with the presentation of cheerleading-themed party supplies. These could include pom poms and air horns in plastic or paper mache that hang from the ceiling, and smaller versions of these cute novelties for guests to take home as party favors. Party colors should be bright and feminine, with banners and streamers shining in shades of pink, lavender and bright red; a gigantic pom pom could serve as a centerpiece, and cheerleader dolls, stuffed animals in cheerleading uniforms, and cardboard cutouts of popular area or national cheerleaders could be strewn throughout the party area.
