The Chicago Bears started out as the Decatur Staleys in 1920. This team was one of 12 inaugural teams to form the American Professional Football Association, which eventually became the National Football League. This team became the Chicago Staleys in 1921, and actually played at Wrigley Field; current home of the Chicago Cubs. The team was renamed the Chicago Bears in 1922.

When people think of the Bears, they think of the team’s famous catch phrase, “Da Bears,” or their impressive home stadium, Soldier Field. They conjure images of Bears legends like Jim McMahon and Refrigerator Perry doing the Super Bowl Shuffle, the dance created to celebrate the team’s participation in Super Bowl XX; a 1986 tournament in which they defeated the New England Patriots. And they picture Bears legends like Walter Payton, whose jersey no. 34 has been officially retired.

Chicago Bears teddy bears rank among the favored collectibles of die hard Bears fans, who still flock to Soldier Field to celebrate the team’s many milestones; in 2003, for example, the Bears defeated the Detroit Lions 24-16 at Soldier Field to become the first team in the NFL to win a grand total of 650 games.
