Handmade Christening Pinatas

A homemade dove piñata is perfect for a Christening party. To make a dove piñata start by blowing up one large balloon (body) and smaller size balloon (head). Attach the balloons together with tape. Cover the piñata with paper mache (2 layers for now). Cut a small one in the piñata and add the candy and treats, cover the hole back up with paper mache. Add a third layer of paper mache over the entire dove once again and let dry. To add the wings, cut out wing shapes from cardboard and tape on the body in a desired location. Cover the wings in paper mache (optional). Add paper mache in between the wings and body to for added reinforcement. Paint or use white tissue paper over dove. Cut out small pieces of paper to make the facial features of the dove such as the beak and eyes. The amount of detail is up to the person making. Ensure to begin the dove piñata several days before the christening party. Paper mache needs to dry before each layer can be applied so allow each layer to dry over night. The types of piñata filling vary from small candies, toys, gift certificates, and coupons.

Offer party guests additional homemade party favors for a christening party. Party favor bags made from paper bags with catholic symbols cut out from construction paper are cute. Homemade party favor can include religious symbol cookies.
