Most people have happy childhood stories to tell about past Christmases. These memories will surely stir up the memories of your guests’ past holiday events, as well. You can tell about the Christmas that you received your first bicycle, or your first Barbie. Or that special Christmas where your dad put together a doll house for you from scratch.
As you speak of past Christmases and the gifts that were involved, there is bound to be some talk about toys that are now antiques. Train sets and G.I. Joe dolls could be worth a lot of money right now. And there will be those questions about these and other toy items, like, “what ever happened to them?” If they had been preserved in the attic, along with the original box they came in, the value of those toys would be much more now. This should spark a lot of conversation about toys, games, and recreation that is much different now. You could compare playing Hide and Seek or a ball game in the street, where children mostly sit at a computer today and play video games. That should lead to further conversation about the kids today, comparing the pastimes once again.
Christmas is a religious, joyous holiday, so the talk should stay light and happy. Talk about the beautiful decorations and the ambiance your host or hostess has created especially for their guests. You can comment about the glitter, the music, the lights and yard decorations, as well as the magnificent decorations on the Christmas tree.
