Columbus Day is perhaps one of the lesser celebrated Holidays in the United States today. While kids still get out of School for the day, most parents are still at work. If you do have a chance to celebrate this holiday in your family you will find there are few traditional menus. That doesnít mean, though, that you canít prepare some delicious snacks for your family. Here are some ideas:

A fun little snack for children on their day home from school is creating a sailboat. To create a sailboat snack all you need is celery, peanut butter, a fruit rollup snack, and a toothpick. If you wish you can add raisins. You take the celery place the peanut butter or cream cheese in the center. Then you place a piece of fruit rollup cut in a triangle on the toothpick to create the sail. You can use the raisins as people in the boat.

Another great dish for children is this delcious version of fruit salad. You can take any type of fruit and combine it in a bowl with 1 8oz package of whipped cream cheese and 1 can condensed milk to create a fruity dessert. Most often apples, peaches, pears, cherries, and grapes make the best fruit salad.

Columbus Day was created to celebrate the discovery of the United States and while we may work a little hard and not really celebrate the holiday as it deserves to be, you can still have fun with your children creating healthy snacks and spending quality time with them. By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create a complete Columbus Day event mood.
