Columbus Day Party Conversation Ideas

The Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria are all part of the Columbus Day conversation. When these three ships set sail in 1492, one of the greatest discoveries was made. Christopher Columbus found a new land.

Chances are if there are children at the Columbus Day party, they might know more about the events that took place than you do. They may have recently been taught and read about this subject at school. For most adults these lessons are long gone from our memories, unless you are a history teacher. Ask lots of questions about the discovery, and how they met up with Indians and traded goods. The kids will be happy to show off their knowledge of the subject. You might even ask them to draw pictures of the three ships that were involved. They will know that one was bigger than the other two.

The décor of the party might be reminiscent of the 1400’s, and begging for praise. Or maybe there are just American flags displayed. Whether it is an indoor party or a backyard barbeque, make sure to compliment the host and hostess for their efforts in making this event a memorable one. Include pleasant comments about the food and how it is set up for the guests, as well. Some may be dressed in costume for the special day to add to the ambiance. Be sure to praise them for being brave enough to wear it, to begin with, and tell them that the costumes are just perfect for this special holiday.
