Following its inception in 1960, the Dallas Cowboys scored its first NFL victory, at a score of 27-24 and under the guidance of legendary coach Tom Landry, over Pittsburgh in the 1961 league opener at the Cotton Bowl. The team enjoyed its first sellout game in 1965, and won its first championship in 1966. Ground was broken on Texas Stadium, the team’s famous home in 1969; the same year that Don Meredith, the last of the original Cowboys, retired. The team won its first Super Bowl in 1971.
