Homemade
Dance Costume
A dance party is probably the most popular type of party around and what could be better than sprucing things up with some costumes. Yes, homemade costumes go very well with the dance theme. They could be based on the guests’ favorite dance forms or could emulate famous dancers from television, film and Broadway.
One Broadway musical also adapted into a film that is synonymous with dance is
“Hairspray.” You can choose from any of the many colorful characters from this movie or play and it would make a great idea for a homemade costume at the dance party. The girls could go as the protagonist Tracy Turnblad. This is a very simple costume to make and includes just a white short sleeved blouse with a bow at the neck which is to be paired with a yellow flannel skirt. The hair is all important of course since it is meant to represent the 60’s hairdo. You can get a wig or contact your local hair stylist to give you the perfect “big haired” look.
The guys could attend the dance as Tracy’s dream lover, Link Larkin. This slick looking costume is sure to turn you into an instant heartthrob. It consists of a pair of black trousers worn under a black shirt and topped off with a blue checked jacket with white buttons. The white tie will give your outfit a truly snazzy look and of course don’t forget to gel your hair and wear oodles of attitude!
