Detroit Lions History & Facts
The Detroit Lions began their football history in Portsmouth, Ohio in 1929, but moved their silver and black décor to Detroit, Michigan in 1934. The Lions have become a great NFL tradition and have won numerous league championships, but most notably have never had a Super Bowl appearance. Furthermore, over the years, the Detroit Lions have played their home games at five different stadiums, but currently play at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The former stadiums were: Universal Stadium (where they played from 1930-1933), University of Detroit Stadium (where they played from 1934-1937 and then again in 1940), the Famous Tiger or Briggs Stadium (1938-1974), and the Pontiac Silverdome(1975-2001). They have been playing at the current stadium, Ford Field, since 2002. Detroit, Michigan is known for its history in the automobile industry but the Detroit Lions have helped to make the city popular, despite having held one of the longest losing streaks in NFL history.
