Election Day
COOKIES
|
 |
Celebrate this Election Day with some ‘winning’ homemade cookies!
Election Day homemade cookies could take any number of forms. The creative cook, for example, can bake some fig newtons, fudge brownie cookies, lemon bars, or other squared cookies in the likeness of election ballots; perhaps writing the name of her favorite candidate in nuts, icing streaks or candies on the cookie’s surface, perhaps with a check next to his/her name.
Election Day homemade cookies also could take the form of iced portraits of favorite candidates. Taking a typical round chocolate, shortbread or vanilla cookie, the host could adorn it with the iced likeness of this politician; the result could resemble the edible version of a campaign button or a commemorative coin.
If the host does not have a favorite candidate in the current election (or if she simply does not wish to alienate guests who may support an opposing candidate), she instead could make cookies of different flavors, in the shape of various patriotic symbols. These could include American flags iced red, white and blue, Uncle Sam-style top hats in the same vibrant and patriotic colors, milk chocolate donkey cookies and vanilla elephant cookies, American eagles with vanilla heads and chocolate bodies (and perhaps a bit of gold icing on the ‘beak’), and tiny iced cookie models of the White House, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore and the Lincoln Memorial.
Guests are sure to cast their votes for any host who serves fun and delicious Election Day homemade cookies!
