Elvis will go down in history as the King of Rock and Roll, or even simply just "The King" as he is sometimes referred to even today. Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8th in 1935 in the town of Tupelo, Mississippi. His family moved him to Memphis Tennessee when he was around 13 years old. In 1954 he began what was to be an astounding career there as Sun Records owner himself Sam Phillips decided he could see great possibilities in Elvis. Sam Phillips had been looking for an artist that could bring the sound of African American music to a much wider audience.
Rockabilly owes its history to Elvis, along with bassist Bill Black and guitarist Scotty Moore who created the original upbeat sound and tempo that became this infamous genre. Combining that sound with rhythm and blues gave Elvis his signature sound and the urge to begin dancing his controversial dances.
Elvis lends to musical history in his successful introduction of a new and improved style of music that eventually would be come to be known as Rock and Roll. This style of music along with his 'gyrating hips' actually became a great agitator to some censors who would even refuse to show Elvis below the waist during his performances. In 1956 Elvis broke out of the musical box and went on to make his film debut in Love Me Tender. This began a long history of career moves that kept him in the limelight and the motion pictures for many years to come.
