Handmade First Communion Pinatas

Celebrate a child’s first communion with a fun, festive handmade piñata for the occasion. Select a piñata type for the First Communion celebration. There are numerous animals commonly associated with the Catholic faith such as doves, lions, lambs etc. Animal piñatas are very fun to make and require little piñata making experience.

A homemade lamb piñata for a First Communion celebration can be made from using two balloons – one for the body and one for the head. Tape the balloons together to form the basic shape of the piñata. The legs can be made from cut toweling rolls or small paper or Styrofoam cups. Tape the cups or toweling rolls to the larger balloon. From the same cups, cut out ears for the lamb and tape them on to the head. Cover the entire lamb in paper mache. After two layers have been applied and dried cut out a small section underneath the lambs body and fill with candy. Cover the entire area once more with paper mache. Once dried, the decorating can begin. Use tissue paper or cotton balls to make the lamb’s coat. Use black cotton balls to make the lambs facial features (cotton balls must be dyed black). Apply the cotton balls to the entire lamb. This is a long process so ensure to begin the lamb piñata several days before the First Communion date. The piñata should be allowed to dry at least three nights prior.
