A Flag Day party calls for a homemade Flag Day piñata, and you can do it! A piñata is relatively easy to make, and you can use your imagination when it comes to decorating it.
Your handmade Flag Day piñata should end up decorated as the American flag, or at least using those colors, so red, white and blue paint will be needed. You will start with a round balloon, fill it with air, and tie it off. The you will need to make paper mache, which is made from flour, water, and newspapers. Mix the flour and water, adding more of either in order to make it a pasty consistency. Then you will need to shred the newspapers and dip the shredded paper into the paste. It will be very sticky, and you will then apply it to the balloon. When the balloon is completely covered, except for a hole in the top to put in the candy later, then you need to set it aside to dry. After it’s dried, pop the balloon, and gently lift it out of the piñata.
Then comes the decorating of your homemade Flag Day piñata. After you paint it in a red, white, and blue design of your choice, you can add glitter, or even glue on some red, white and blue crepe paper to hang off and blow in the wind. Then fill the piñata with goodies, toys and candy, and there you have the entertainment of the day for the kids! They will whack it in anxious anticipation of the goodies inside.
