Handmade Football Pinatas

A football theme piñata is very simple to make and requires little paper mache expertise. Mix 5 parts water with 1 part flour and boil for about 3 minutes string continuously. Add a tablespoon of salt to keep it from getting moldy. Use two small round balloons and one long balloon as the framework for the football piñata. Place the small round ones on the top and the bottom of the long one with glue. Use masking tape and go from one end of the long balloon over the top of a small one to the other end of the long one. Then tape from that point back to the start point. Tape around the round balloons from top to bottom and back, pulling the tape to form the balloons into a football. Cover the rest of the area with masking tape once the football shape is formed. Now apply the paper mache by tearing strips of newspaper about 3 inches by 1 inch. Ensure to leave a small opening to place the candy in (this hole will be covered later). Put on two layers of paper mache and pop the balloons once the two layers are completely dry. Fill with candy and cover the hole with paper and tape. The third and final coat of paper mache is then applied. Once dried, paint or add small brown and white pieces of tissue paper. Prick two small holes in the top of the piñata or add a cut wire hang and tape on the paper mache. Lace with string so it can be hung if small poked holes are used.
