Fraternity Costume

A costume for a fraternity theme party usually is distinguished by its generally low cost, fraternities being more interested in spending the money on libations and eats rather than expensive store-bought costumes. This is why most fraternity theme parties tend to revolve around the Roman or bacchanal-related party rather than something that might require a costume that can’t be made in some sort of homemade fashion. And when one is speaking of Roman-themed party ideas, the toga costume – first made famous in the movie “Animal House,” comes immediately to mind.

Of course, a homemade costume – when it comes to a toga costume – is quite easy to make from just a couple of sheets and it requires almost no skill in sewing or other tailoring activities. To spice up the costume, of course, a person might want to look at making up some sort of Roman headdress, which usually consisted of a laurel wreath that went around the head back in the Roman days.

In order to make up the laurel wreath – or a wreath resembling the real deal – all that’s necessary is a quick visit to an arts and crafts store, all of which carry synthetic or real laurel that can be quickly fashioned into a wreath that can be worn on the head. Of course, a true homemade costume – when going to a fraternity party wear a beer keg costume– might be topped off by a simple necktie worn around a person’s head, which would be symbolic in nature and considered a stand-in for such a laurel wreath. The point in all this, of course, is that a fraternity costume party is meant to be a lot of fun. A toga costume most certainly would be that.
