History will always remember GI Joe as the action figure that was mass produced and for good reason by the company Hasbro. Most people are amazed at the history behind many of the shows from the present and past. Like others before them the times of past and the recordings are often as interesting now as they were many years ago. For this reason, fans of the show have held strong and their popularity has continued to grow. Originally, the GI product was offered displaying the four branches of US armed forces to include the Action Pilot from the Air Force, the Action Marine to represent US Marines, the Action Sailor to honor the US Navy and the Soldier, who of course represented the US Army. So where did the term GI come from? GI means government issued which in the past was a term used to describe US Soldiers, particularly the ground forces.

The GI Joe trademark has a long history. Hasbro has used this trademark in two separate lines of toys. Their original GI Joe creation came in the form of a line of 12 inch figures that was predated to 1964 and actually centered on creating realistic action figurines. However, around the same time this same line was licensed to a company known as Palitoy and given a new name of Action Man.

Then in 1982, the entire line was once again relaunched and this time as a three and three quarter inch scale model. However this time the action figures came complete with their own vehicles, play sets as well as a variety of background stories that involved the constant struggle between the good GI Joe team against the very evil Cobra Command. With the Cobra Commander using terrorism as a means to take over the world, the GI Joe team always stays busy to combat this evil.
