Holy Communion PARTY CRAFT IDEAS

Many times modern holy communions still include the old tradition of a first communion veil.

To Make a Holy Communion Veil, You'll Need:
• Any bendable craft wire that will hold its shape.
• White plastic grocery bags.
• Approximately two yards of 7/16" acetate satin ribbon
• One Yard of 72" wide white tulle.
• Hot glue gun
• Needle
• Thread
• Embellishments

Form a circle that will fit the child's head. Cut off any colored portion of the plastic bags. Wrap the circle in the bag, by twisting and secure with glue until the entire circle is about ½ inch thick. Now, wrap this fairly tightly in the ribbon, and secure with hot glue.

Fold Tulle, across the width, six times to create a one yard long rectangle that is about 4.5" across. Fold length wise. This will make your tulle about 4.5" by 18"

Use a saucer or bowl to trace a curve to the folded sides, and cut with scissors. Unfold and refold lengthwise so that the ends are slightly staggered to show two rows of scallops.

Using a needle and thread, baste the edge together, and pull threads to form even gathers until it is about eleven inches wide. Tie off with a couple of small stitches. Pin to circle. Whip stitch to circle, and remove pins.

This is your basic veil, and you can finish any edges with beads, pearls, ribbon or flowers until your veil is as elaborate as you want.
