Homemade
Homecoming Costume
A homecoming celebration, either in high school or in college, can be a great excuse for a costume theme party, it has to be said. And more and more people are looking at a homecoming event as the perfect time to hold a party that involves a costume worn by the attendees. Whether there’ll be a specific theme, such as something involving football – which is a common homecoming-related activity – or whether the party will just be general in nature with a free-for-all in terms of costume ideas, it’s relatively simple to make up something in a homemade fashion rather than to spend a lot of money at a costume store.
The first thing to figure out is whether or not there’ll be a general theme to the costume party. The simplest costumes usually can be made when the theme involves a school football team. Finding clothing in the school’s colors and then combining them with a pennant, a straw boater hat, white shoes and even a faux fur coat obtained from a thrift store can give a little of the 1920s and 1930s-era feel to such a homecoming party. Teaching attendees to chant “sis boom rah, rah, rah, rah” may be a bit more difficult, though.
Usually, when a homecoming party is held, the organization or people giving the party will name the theme. It might not even have anything to do with the school itself, but the chances are good that it will usually have something to do with a significant event or era that impacted the organization, college or people giving the party. In almost every case, though, a homemade costume can usually be put together from commonly-available pieces, which is a fortunate occurrence,
honestly.
