Labor Day Costume
While Labor Day started out as a way for Congress and the president to recognize nonunion laborers in the early 20th century who were simply looking for a better lifestyle and wages its become a national holiday. Many celebrate Labor Day as one of the summer holidays, a time for parades, picnics and lounging in the sun. It is a popular day off for many government workers. You can use this holiday as a chance to get dressed up at your very own Labor Day costume party. It's not so difficult to imagine Labor Day as a time for costumes. In fact, many veterans will dress up in old military uniforms for parades, local unions will show up in uniforms, members of rotary clubs and charity groups will often dress in uniform for their part in the parade. Plus, every Labor Day parade often includes policeman and firefighters in uniform and usually blaring their sirens for the crowd.
So, for your Labor Day costume party consider inviting guests to come dressed up in the garb of some of their favorite professions. The kids especially, will get into this as a chance to explore future jobs. Consider letting them dress up as whatever they would like to be when they grow up. A surgeon is easy to put together with netting for their hair, a face mask and paper robe or scrubs. However they want to dress it will be easy to find the elements for their uniforms.
To further encourage guests to dress up consider giving out party prizes at the event. These prices can be stuffed animals, goody bags, and even party favors like watches and necklaces.
