A luau homemade piñata is just one of the many party supplies that can be made to ensure the luau party is the best ever. Handmade luau piñatas should reflect the theme of the party i.e. palm trees, Tiki masks, fish, Hawaiian shirts, pineapples, flowers, flip-flops, tropical birds, and ukuleles.
The yellow hibiscus is Hawaii’s state flower so why not make a yellow hibiscus homemade piñata for the luau party. To make a large hibiscus piñata cut out the hibiscus flower from Styrofoam (two sheets). In between the cutout place several small balloons in the center and tape together. Once the balloons are taped, start placing strips of paper mache over the flower. Use at least three layers of paper mache to ensure the piñata is thick but not unbreakable. Before the last layer of the piñata is applied, insert the candy by cutting a small hole in the paper mache on the bottom. Now that the piñata is filled with piñata candies and toys, add a 3third layer of paper mache. Allow each layer of paper mache to sit over night to dry. After the third layer of paper mache is dry, insert a needle to pop the balloons inside. Use colored tissue paper for the decorations. The piñata does not have to be solely yellow in color but pink, purple, blue, orange and red are also acceptable colors (piñatas should be brightly colored). To hang the piñata poke to small holes in the top of the piñata and insert a wire.
