In mid-March, there is a great celebration in New Orleans called the Mardi Gras, and there is much to speak about when it comes to the excitement of the event. It’s like Halloween with all the festive costumes, except people are dancing in the streets. There are parades and floats, music and laughter, and great food and drink for all to enjoy.
The jazz bands that fill the streets during Mardi Gras are certainly talented, and they should be commended. It takes a lot of energy to entertain the thousands that attend this great event. And most of it takes place in the streets. Between songs, you might ask a band how long they’ve been doing this. They will be happy to respond, especially if they’ve been doing it for many years. They will have stories to tell, good and bad. And the subject of Hurricane Katrina will surely come up.
However, people like to be merry during the Mardi Gras weekend. Thousands from other states and countries come to New Orleans just to attend this fabulous event. It’s known for its adventure, colorful costumes, great food and great fun. The food can always be talked about, because there is that special Cajun flair to it that attracts the masses. You might ask cooks about the special ingredients, the best fresh fish to use, and the unique spices that make these foods so delectable. And you will never run out of conversation when speaking about the creative masks and costumes that you will find at the Mardi Gras.
