Homemade
Memorial Day Costume
We originally set aside Memorial Day as a time to honor soldiers who died during the civil war. However, with years of remembrance, celebration and more wars, it became a holiday to honor fallen soldiers from all wars and even a memorial day for firefighters and police officers who died during the line of duty. It's not uncommon for people to celebrate this holiday with music, parades, and even picnics. It's meant to be a joyous occasion in remembrance of the fallen. Even many former veterans and civil servants will wear their uniforms in parades and to celebrations on this holiday. It's not much of a stretch to consider holding a costume party for this holiday and inviting all of your guests to get dressed up.
Costume parties are an especially fun activity for kids, who may want to wear their costumes the entire day, even to walk in the parade. Kids can celebrate with their own homemade costumes, from a Soldier's uniform to a surgeon, or a firefighter. You can help them pick out a navy blue shirt and pants and combine them with a kid's police toy set with badge, hat and night stick.
A more humorous costume could be dressing up as Bulldog, an animal often associated with the tenacity of police and military units. Or even get your own animals dressed up for the celebration as mini officers and cute superheroes replete with their own colorful capes and booties. There are a ton of ideas for Memorial Day costumes. You simply need to gather up the materials.
