Music for an Oscar theme party is equally as important as the movies themselves. For an Oscar theme party, play scores and soundtracks for movies that have won the Oscar for Best Picture. Celebrating a special event with outstanding performances that include singing, dancing and acting is a great way to keep the guests involved in the celebration. These fun activities are perfect for guests of all ages and will add a great deal to the celebration. More often than not, these performances will be the perfect addition to a fun filled and exciting event. There is no shortage of great movie scores and soundtracks to choose from, for example:
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King [Enhanced, Soundtrack] by Howard Shore
Chicago [Soundtrack]
Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture [Soundtrack] by James Horner (Composer), Celine Dion (Performer)
The Silence Of The Lambs: The Original Motion Picture Score [Soundtrack] by Howard Shore
Amadeus: The Complete Original Soundtrack Recording
Chariots Of Fire: Music From The Original Soundtrack - Original Master Recording
Rocky: Original Motion Picture Score
The Godfather I & II Soundtracks
The Sound Of Music Soundtrack
My Fair Lady [Cast Recording]
West Side Story Soundtrack
Casablanca: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Gone With The Wind: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Another option for Oscar music is selecting movies that did not win the Oscar for Best Picture. The list of hundreds of movies might be difficult to choose from so select pre-existing albums that contain some of the all-time classic songs.
Hollywood's Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, Vol. 2
Award Winning Movie Themes by London Pops Orchestra
Beautiful Hollywood by Erich Kunzel & Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
100 Greatest Film Themes by Original Soundtrack
100 Greatest Film Themes - Take 2
Game idea: take a clear container, then fill with candy, toys or other objects and have the guests guess the number of items inside. Photos provide such lasting memories; take time to designate someone as the photographer at a social occasion. Gather up some leftover brown packing boxes, wrap them in a matching theme color design and place them throughout the event space for instant decorations.

Oscar party can be lavish affair with plenty of party supplies or a simple get-together among friends and family who love cinema. With a limited budget, plan an Oscar party that is easy to throw with homemade Oscar ballots. More often than not, these colorful embellishments will add a lot of attention to the celebration. A homemade Oscar banner should be included with other Oscar themed party supplies. To make a banner, use a large long sheet of paper and write the appropriate welcome such as Welcome To The 84th Academy Awards – Present by John & Jill, for example. Decorate the Oscar banner with gold glitter on black paper as well. Since the Oscars are all about the glitz and glamour, ensure the banner reflects the spirit of the award ceremony. The most important thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy the evening with fellow movie lovers.

The Oscar award statue is very recognizable, so why not use it for the shape of the cake for an Oscar themed party? It should be easy to find a photo of the statue. Trace around it for the stencil. This will be the shape that the cake will be cut into when it is done. This fun filled get together is the ideal time for a variety of creative sweets and other tasty treats designed especially for this event. These items are always a great addition to a celebration and most often the addition of enjoyable desserts that are designed especially for this gathering will make very happy and glad that came to the celebration.
Make your very favorite cake recipe. It could be anything from a simple carrot cake to a red velvet, or even a devil’s food chocolate cake.
Make sure it will be large enough, like a sheet cake, so that when carved into the image of the Oscar, it will still be large enough to cut up and serve to guests. It can be a plain cake, or it can be layered with custard or other cream filling. And it may also be accomplished by baking three separate cakes, if the third one is twice as large as the other two. If this method is used, one cake will be cut out for the head, the second cake will be the body, and the largest one will be the rest of it, or the legs.
When it is done, use the stencil and cut it to look like the shape of the famous Oscar trophy. Frost it with a golden frosting, and perhaps gold glitter cake decorations, and there you have it!

A lot of people throw Oscar parties for their fellow friends and family members, especially if that person is an adult, but you can easily throw an Oscar party for the kids in your life. Most hosts will find that from making a guest list to preparing the food, having a plan will make the celebration go off without a hitch. Simple hostess tip: Prepare for the entire celebration in advance and avoid adding any extra commitments or stress on the hostess during the preparation period. This simple tip will ensure that the hostess has a stress free and very entertaining time during the actual celebration. This is a great way to create a fancy party atmosphere that kids can love. It also helps to make the party more interesting for the adults who are attending as well. Class up the party by combining it with a Roaring 20s theme.
You can get your kids involved in preparing for the party before it starts by cutting out and taping up construction paper stars and other movie themed decorations. A red plastic table cloth makes for a great red carpet to put out at the party and it will provide some protection for your carpeted areas in case there is a drink spill. For fun serve up Kool Aid in plastic light up LED wine glasses that the kids can drink from. They’ll love the lighted glows and you may find them turning off the lights so they can get a better glowing effect.
Put out serving trays of their favorite treats as appetizers at the party. Go ahead and put the spray cheese on some crackers or open a can of Vienna sausages. The kids will gobble up their favorite snacks.
At the party have the kids nominate other guests using handwritten voting ballots for different areas like, Friendliest Guest and Funniest Joke Teller. Then you can gather up the ballots and once you’ve counted the votes have an awards ceremony. At the ceremony hand out chocolate, foil covered ‘Oscars’ and of course save one for the honored birthday guest. Let everyone give their own speech and make the birthday boy or girl give a speech thanking all their guests for coming. For extra fun have someone serve as the paparazzi and take keepsake photos of the guests in front of a banner or on the red carpet.
