At least 4 hours before cooking, trim crusts and
cut bread into 1" squares. Cut cheese into bite size

Beat eggs well, stir in salt, pepper, mustard and
milk. Combine thoroughly. Pour over casserole.

Oscar MENU IDEAS |
 |
Oscar Parties are hot right now. Whether your guests are die-hard celebrity newshounds or casual movie-watchers, everyone likes to watch the pageantry of the Academy Awards and everyone certainly likes to eat, too. Satisfy their hunger with this Oscar menu.
The Oscars are about class, elegance and pageantry. Therefore, when it comes to beverages, champagne and non-alcoholic sparkling ciders are the clear winners for Best Drink. For appetizers, serve up fresh Oysters Rockefeller, cleverly renamed Oscar Rockefeller. If serving a main course, many fish dishes can be both elegant and affordable. The key is to keep dishes simple to preserve your sanity as the host.
For dessert on your Hollywood menu, how about a Red Carpet (Velvet) Cake? This cake could be frosted white with a red “carpet” running down the middle. Cream one-half cup shortening; beat in one and a half cups sugar gradually. Add two eggs; beat well. Make paste of 2 tablespoons cocoa and one and a half ounce of red food coloring; add to creamed mixture. Add one teaspoon salt, two and a half cups flour and one teaspoon vanilla alternately with one cup buttermilk, beating well after each addition. Sprinkle one teaspoon soda over one tablespoon vinegar; pour mixture over batter. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Bake in 3 8-inch pans or 2 9-inch pans for 30 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
While you may never win an Oscar for Best Picture, this Oscar menu is sure to get your name into your guests’ next acceptance speech. By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create
a complete Oscar theme party feeling. |
