- Pick a theme for the party. Here are a few ideas

- Make the honoree feel special with a
personalized photo cake and other
stuff
- Arrange entertainment & equipment: clown, bouncers, cotton candy machine, pony rides, tables, chairs
- If party is to be outside, have a back-up plan for bad weather
- If party is going to be at a location, make reservation
1-3 months in advance
- Child-proof the party area. Think of all the stuff the kids get
into.
- Keep your pets out of the way by sending them to a friend's house
- Provide goodie bags for each child. Some ideas for the
party

include mini figurines, super balls, pencils, etc.
- Offer stuff like prizes for the
party games
- Let siblings invite a special friend for the day so they won't feel left out
- Display memorabilia and scrapbooks that feature the guest of honor
- Consider Gift Certificate as a gift for the honoree, this way he/she can
pick out their own stuff
- If you have children, don't forget games and activities (Frisbee, soccer ball, football, bubbles)
- For outside parties, plan for traditional games, such as 3-legged races and horseshoes
- Remember to have a fire extinguisher available
- Make sure to have a bag for recycling items
- For outside parties, wrap a fork, knife and spoon together in a napkin and tie with a ribbon
- For outside parties, use a hammock or fishing net hold the guest of honor's gifts
- Hold a roast: have guests provide their most memorable moments
- Remember to invite the retiree's family
