Passover is an important holiday to many individual’s and families. Your family may have a traditional Passover recipe you have had for years or you may be looking to start your own traditions. Whatever you wish to do, here are a few ideas to start with:
Typically Passover meals start with Matzo Ball soup or Chicken Soup. Dinners usually include slow roasted brisket, stuffed chicken, or potato Kugel. For dessert you may find Mandelbread, Oatmeal cookies, brownies, or Apple Cinnamon Kugel.
For Matzo Ball Soup you will need 2 ten ounce packages of matzo crackers, ½ cup butter, 6 eggs, salt and pepper to taste, 3 tablespoons of minced fresh parsley, 2 minced onions, 5 ounces of matzo meal, and 96 ounces of chicken broth. In boiling water you will place the crackers in the water until they are just soft then drain off the water. In a skillet you will stir in the drained matzos in melted butter until dry and brown. Then mix the other ingredients except for the matzo meal and broth. Once the mix is created add the matzo meal making the mix hold together. Roll them into balls and then place in boiling water to make sure they don’t break apart. In a large saucepan you will bring the chicken broth to a boil and add the balls to the broth. Let the matzo balls rise to the top and then serve the soup.
Passover allows for many different family traditions to grace the table. You will be able to spend time in the kitchen with family, and then share your culinary creations with your loved ones. And that, after all, is what celebrating together is all about. By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create a complete Passover event mood.
