Pirates of the Caribbean History & Facts
The Pirates of the Caribbean is known primarily as a popular movie series; and the facts are that it’s a sweeping tale that appeals to the adventurer in audiences of all ages. Most people are amazed at the history behind many of the shows from the present and past. Like others before them the times of past and the recordings are often as interesting now as they were many years ago. For this reason, fans of the show have held strong and their popularity has continued to grow.Featuring megastars like the inimitable Johnny Depp, nominated for an Academy Award for his history-making role as Captain Jack Sparrow, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, the Pirates of the Caribbean film series is a high-grossing high seas adventure that is certainly a feather in the cap of its parent company, Walt Disney Studios. Fans of film trivia facts will know that the film series consists of the motion pictures The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), and At World’s End (2007). A fourth installment, the 3D epic On Stranger Tides, is due for release later this year. All of these swashbuckling flicks chronicle the history-laced adventures of the swarthy and dashing Captain Jack Sparrow, the brave and kind Will Turner, and the wise and fearless Elizabeth Swann. The debut film alone was nominated for five Oscars, and inspired numerous video games and a young adult book series. Pirates of the Caribbean action figures and large collectible dolls are a hit—both with kids and adult doll collectors. And a Pirates of the Caribbean board game is particularly popular with game players. Pirates posters, T-shirts and novelty items complete the collections of any Pirates enthusiast. Facts that some may not know, however, include the knowledge that this blockbuster media franchise started out as a recreation park ride at Disney Land in California and Disney World in Florida. Both of these rides take guests via boat to stormy pirate waters, where they step back in history to see realistic looking audio-animatronic pirates, and even get to witness a pirate fight on the high seas. As exciting as these rides are, a good number of viewers (especially those of the female persuasion) prefer to see the real live Johnny Depp on the big screen, shining in the role of Captain Jack.
