Arr, mateys! Bring Captain Jack Sparrow to your child's next party with a Pirates of the Caribbean homemade pinata! What a better way to add entertainment and fun to a celebration than to give the guests the chance to create something using their own craftsmanship or do another type of fun activity? Most hosts will find that this can be done many different ways depending on the age of the guests. For this reason, planning in advance will prove to be very beneficial to the planning of this event. This is a fun project that your kids will be sure to enjoy once you're done.

To make this pinata, you'll need lots of newspaper ripped into strips, water, glue, a round flat object like a hat box for your frame, masking tape, a sharp knife, glue (lots of glue!), scissors, brown, black and red ribbon (pirate-y colors), deflated Pirates of the Caribbean mylar balloon, and masking tape.

Yo ho here we go! Lay the frame on a flat surface (be sure to cover the surface. This will get messy). Mix together two parts water with one part glue. Rip the newspaper into strips and dip a strip into the glue mixture. Remove the excess mixture and smooth it onto the mold. Repeat this process until you have covered the entire mold with no gaps or spaces, except for a hole at the top for the candy. Allow this to dry for a day. Then add another layer of wet paper mache. Allow this to completely dry for another day or two.

When it's good and dry, take the sharp knife and cut the paper mache into two separate parts. Remove them from the mold, then tape them back together again with the masking tape.

Take the mylar balloon (which should fit onto the face of the pinata) and glue it onto the front. You can also use a printed image of Pirates of the Caribbean if you don't have a balloon. Take strips of ribbon and use the scissors to curl them. Glue the ribbon curls onto the pinata.

Now just string some yarn near the candy hole, fill the pinata with candy, and let you little pirates have at it! Giving guests a choice of glow in the dark wands and jewelry is like giving them a license to be kids again, so go for it. Decorate the chairs, sofa, and any other furniture pieces in the entertainment room.
