The fifth-oldest franchise in the National Football League, the Steelers were founded on July 8, 1933, by Arthur Joseph Rooney. Originally playing under the moniker of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team was a member of the Eastern Division of the then 10-team NFL. The Patriots became the Steelers in 1940.
Aside from their winning record and extensive history, the Steelers are known for their bright signature colors of red, blue, white and gold, for a logo that resembles a rich smattering of colored diamonds, as well as for legendary players like Terry Bradshaw and “Mean” Joe Greene.
