Handmade Poker Party Favors

A poker game is a party in itself; one that would be even more fun with the inclusion of handmade party favors.

Homemade party favors at a Poker party should be as festive and flashy as the game itself. And perhaps even tasty; indeed, a host can actually make edible handmade party favors for a Poker fest. She could, for example, make lemon or chocolate bars (which tend to be rectangular in shape) and ice them to resemble playing cards. A few icing flourishes can transform a standard dessert bar into a Queen of Hearts or Jack of Spades. Or she could prepare chocolate and strawberry mints that resemble poker chips.

These favors could be presented to guests in individual plastic or cellophane bags that could be marked to liken casino cash bags; or perhaps in small cake boxes marked to resemble playing card boxes. Faux cards and poker chips also can take material form; the host can surprise guests with everything from dyed wooden nickels that resemble the chips to carved ‘playing cards’ that are actually drink coasters. In addition, practical household items—everything from flat soap dishes to pot holders to salt and pepper shakers—can be decorated to resemble cards and chips.

Others musts at a Poker party should include colors that are classy and flashy—dark reds, azure blues, ebony, gold and silver would be safe ‘bets’—and which show up in the tableware, cloth banners, starbursts, and streamers that decorate the party area. And for wall art? A crisp copy of “Dogs Playing Poker,” of course!
