Handmade Poker Pinatas

While children may not be old enough to gamble in a casino, bring the party to them with homemade poker piñatas, party supplies, decorations, and games. Creating a handmade piñata takes time but is well worth the effort. One piñata idea is to make a playing card piñata. Fill a cardboard box with candies and toys in a box that is not hard to break. Punch two holes on opposite sides of the box, about 2 inches down from the top. Pass a piece of strong string through the holes to make a hanger. Use heavy-duty string that will not break. Tear strips of newspaper, coat them with the paper mache paste and spread them over the box. Repeat this process until the box is completely covered with strips. Cover the box with at least three layers of paper mache, letting each layer dry thoroughly before adding a new one. Paint over the dried paper mache with white acrylic paint. Print out the desire card e.g. King, Queen, Jack, or Joker. Paste the desired images onto the dried paper mache. Allow the paint to dry before adding crepe paper or tissue paper and cover. To make a fringe effect, glue only the top of the squares and work in rows from the bottom.

Once completed, the children can have at it and bash the piñata open and receive all the goodies inside. Make sure plenty of pictures are taken of the playing card piñata.
