COOKIES

Make a splash at any pool party with some downright delicious homemade cookies!
Homemade pool cookies could take on the shape and appearance of an actual pool. Taking some typical round shortbread cookies, the host could slather them with thick blue butter cream icing, layering it in a way that likens the water and waves of a typical swimming pool. Then she might top them with plastic tokens that remind guests of the aquatic experience. These could include the miniature likenesses of surfboards, tropical fish, merpeople, seashells, sailboats, etc. Finally she could arrange them in the shape of a swimming pool at the center of the party table.
For a different culinary challenge, homemade pool cookies could assume the likeness of decorative inner tubes. After baking some pinwheel-style or doughnut-shaped cookies in any flavor, she could adorn them with sprinkles or icing flourishes in fresh, vibrant tropical colors such as red, pink, gold, bright green, and of course aqua blue. She also could form the cookie into the likeness of a whimsical animal inner tube that a child might enjoy; one that looks like a baby duck or a seahorse, for example, or perhaps an adorable purple dragon.
As an alternative the host could make homemade pool cookies in the shape of aquatic symbols, such as sailboats, fish, rafts (a lemon bar-style cookie, for example, could morph easily into a raft), seagulls, dolphins, whales, porpoises, or even sharks—just be certain to reassure guests that there are none of those creatures lounging around in the swimming pool!
