Swimming pools are a frequent center of fun and recreation for people of all ages; so what could be more enjoyable than a Pool Party?
The first ‘pool parties’ perhaps were enjoyed by ancient Greeks and Romans, who gathered at scenic hot springs for bathing and socializing.
Today’s pool parties take place at various swimming pools—Olympic-style, kidney shaped, and others—across the country. Some of these festivities are community events that take place at city pools, and that may involve activities like foam parties (in which people in bathing suits and summer fashions dance on decks covered with suds), barbecues, etc. Others are family or neighborhood events that happen at home pools, and that could entail games like Marco Polo and for the kids, water ball (games like baseball, soccer, etc., played with water-resistant equipment and sponge balls) and Barbie pool parties; indeed, a fully accessorized Barbie swimming pool is available on the market, and could be posted on deck at a kids’ Barbie pool party!
Modern pool parties of all varieties are likely to feature refreshments such as barbecued ribs, tropical drinks (punch for the younger set, wine coolers and beer for older folk), cookies and submarine sandwiches, etc. Some people prefer hanging out on deck to sunbathe and socialize, while others actually like a good swim, or even an informal swimming competition.
Through the years people have grown to take a more serious view of pool parties, this due to some of the dangers involved. Sadly, some accidental drownings have taken place at these parties, leading many hosts to post warning and regulation signs at the front door.
Overall, though, the Pool Party is a summertime institution that celebrates the sun, the water, and of course good friends. Plan a Pool Party today!
