It’s true that some holidays are more exciting than others, and many people feel that Presidents Day just doesn’t hold the same draw as many larger holidays. However, if we think about creating themed crafts for the holiday, we can really boost the interest in such a sleepy holiday.

Presidents Day is set aside as a memorial to two of the greatest men to hold the office, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, though it is used to remind us of all the great men who have led our country. One craft that you may want to try is a project in which you can recall every president to date with some sort of symbol to represent that president in one large collage. For example, you can use a cherry tree for Washington, a cross for John F. Kennedy to recall his Catholic heritage, and so on.

Another Presidents Day craft you may want to consider, especially for young children, is to create a piece of artwork about the current president or voting, based on ideas the children provide after studying information about the leader of the country. This can be a simple short poem on voting or a drawing or some art craft that can be mounted in a classroom or daycare center room and viewed as a creation of which they can be proud, as well as a reminder of how important it is to have a government, and election day in the United States. With these crafts, Presidents Day can become much more than just another boring day that kids don’t go to school and banks don’t operate.
