Roaring 20s Carrot Cake. Roaring 20s was what made Cindy's party so unforgettable the taste this cake has is really good, I remember my first bite like it was just yesterday, I had to share this recipe with you all.
2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups oil
2 cups sugar
2 3/4 cups coarsely grated carrots
1 8 oz can crushed pineapple (drained)
3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and cinnamon.
In a large bowl, mix sugar, oil, and eggs.
Add flour mixture a little at a time, mixing well after
each addition. Add carrots, pineapple, nuts, and coconut and
blend thoroughly.
Turn into either:
-- 3 greased and floured cake pans
-- 1 9x12 greased and floured cake pan (deep)
Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. If removing cake from pan,
let cool for about ten minutes before removal. Cool completely.
Frost w/cream cheese frosting. Carrot cake will keep well in
refrigerator for at least a week.
Cream Cheese Frosting
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 8 oz package cream cheese
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1 pound package confectioner's sugar
(start w/about 1/2 pound and add to taste - 1 lb may be too sweet)
Soften butter and cream cheese. Cream together with vanilla.
Sift in confectioner's sugar and blend well. If too thick,
add one teaspoon of milk to thin frosting.

| WITH THE CALENDARS PAGE: As each player enters the hall he/she is given a calendar's page. The girls receive even, the boys - odd numbers. During the party the possessors of the pages are suggested different tasks. 1. To gather according to the months. 2. To gather according to the days of the weeks. 3. To make up the number 1998. 4. To make up teams of Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays etc. 5. To find the yesterday (for example "the 25th of December" looks for "the 24th of December" etc.) 6. To choose the pair. The last game is played while dancing. Before every new dance the leader announces any number from 35 to 55. The players must form the pairs so that the sum of their numbers is equal to the announced number. For example the leader announced number 37. So, the pair may consist of the players with the numbers 30 and 7, or 18 and 19 on their pages. In all the tasks win the players who are the first to do them. Lots more

The Roaring 20s may have been a time when prohibition made alcohol illegal, but that doesn’t mean that other foods from the period were outlawed. You can put together a great party with some of these foods that were popular during the Roaring 20s.
I don’t know about you but starting dessert first sounds like a great idea with some gelato. Back then it was called Venetian Ice Cream and the guests will love it. Next you can track down the ingredients for a Waldorf Salad, that creamy sweet sensation of the twenties. Then, serve up the main meal of Hollandaise Potatoes, Asparagus and striped bass or chicken for those who dislike fish.
Waldorf Salad
For this unique Roaring 20s menu item you’ll need the following ingredients: 1 cup apples chopped, Granny smith or a Sweet tart apple, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, 1 cup celery, chopped, 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1/4 cup raisins (optional), 1/4 cup walnuts (optional).
You’ll need to sprinkle the apples with the lemon juice after you chop them. Then place in a bowl with the other ingredients. Toss the ingredients together with the mayonnaise. Make sure all pieces are thoroughly coated.
Venetian Ice Cream
You’ll have to try out this Roaring 20s recipe on your guest with the following ingredients: 3 cups milk, 1-1/2 cups heavy cream, 6 egg yolks, 3/4 cups sugar.
Mix milk and cream in medium saucepan. Warm until a foam forms on the edges of the mixture. Remove from heat. Beat together egg yolks and sugar in a large bowl until frothy. Pour the egg mixture into the milk mixture while whisking constantly.
Return saucepan to medium heat. Stir with wooden spoon until mixture gels slightly and sticks to back of spoon. Remove from heat immediately. Pour mixture through a sieve to remove any egg lumps that may have formed. Cover and chill for several hours overnight.
Put mixture into ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturers instructions. At the point of adding the gelato to the ice cream maker you can add whatever flavoring you like, some vanilla or chocolate or even other ingredients.
The Waldorf Salad and Venetian Ice Cream are perfect treats for the guests at your Roaring 20s holiday party. Make sure you have plenty of paper goods to serve it up on. By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create
a complete Roaring 20s theme party feeling. |
