Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) Costume
Rosh Hashanah, also known as the Jewish New Year is an important time each year when one focuses on their behavior and actions over the past year. It's a sentimental and cleansing time when one gets a chance to review and make amends as well as focus anew on the year to come. It's considered one of the holiest days of the year, so there's very little similarity to the secular New Year's celebration that occurs every Dec. 31st. In fact, the Jewish New Year occurs a full 3+ months before the westernized New Year. Yet, both are focused on reviewing the past year and making plans for the new.
This doesn't mean you can't throw your own rocking Rosh Hashanah party after the solemn events of the Days of Awe have passed. You can even set up this party to rival the most exciting of the Westernized New Year's events with music, food, costumes and more.
Have friends come to the party as ancient Sheppard, farmers, warriors and kings and queens. All it takes is a little decorative cloth and a comprehensive make up kit.
Guests can also get funky and have some fun with the holiday by pulling their best hairy shirt, crosses and tight pants for a 70s themed party. There is always time to boogie down before the end of the year. Then you can host a dance contest and have the guests vote on the best dancers. Or a costume competition for the most creative or outlandish costumes. Be sure to give out plenty of party favors and prizes to the winners.
