Administrative Professionals Day used to be Secretary’s Day, but that idea has evolved, and so should your homemade party favors. The occasional joke about the secretary sitting on the boss’s lap with a steno pad is still cute, but they no longer want roses for their day. They want cash.

So, why not have fun with some old fashioned ideas by making your handmade party favors laughable? An old typewriter, which is now an antique, might be the perfect centerpiece. Have various twenty dollar bills coming out from between the keys. These can, of course, be fake. You can also enhance the idea of the assistant’s freedom by adding a sign that says, “One way ticket to Figi,” or “One pass for a three-hour lunch.”

There was a lot of controversy about this day over the years, and secretaries nationwide made headlines, so maybe your homemade party favors can include some of these headlines. You might be able to find them way back from the 1950’s, where secretaries spoke out. It may not be able this holiday, because it didn’t exist yet. But it could be about a secretary’s skirt being too shirt, or secretaries requesting to wear slacks on dress-down day, and things of that nature. Place these antiquated headlines all over the walls, perhaps framed, and your guests will have more than enough conversation pieces with which to enjoy themselves. You will see how it brings up lots of memories of days gone by, when it was alright for the boss to flirt, and so on.
